The Father of Modern Hebrew. Ben-Yehuda’s household was the first Hebrew-speaking home in Palestine. This rare Autograph Postcard, naturally in Hebrew, speaks about soliciting assistance in obtaining subscriptions for the First Hebrew Dictionary about which Ben-Yehuda writes: “we will be sending you the first bar this week.” In addition, he asks for assistance in collecting funds and renewing subscriptions for his daily publication of Ha-Zevi: “Please collect all money owing from present subscriptions as well as those who wish to renew their subscriptions and send us the money.” Autograph material relating to Eliezer Ben-Yehuda and his historic contribution to the establishment of modern Hebrew spoken in the Land of Israel is very rare on the market.
